“You’re shit!”
“You can’t swim! Get out of the pool!”
“You look ridiculous - how embarrassing!”
CAN YOU IMAGINE TALKING TO A CHILD LIKE THIS?!
We might not be little kids anymore but our creativity is a childish, carefree, curious spirit and we must cultivate supportive and compassionate conditions so our creative spirit can thrive.
As we “officially” go back to work this week, find a picture of yourself from when you were little (or a picture of a small animal/ anything that softens you and cultivates those kind & nurturing feelings inside). Put the picture in your workspace, on the fridge, set it as your screensaver if you’re out and about a lot - get it somewhere visible basically. And let it be a constant visual reminder to have compassion for that childlike creative spirit within you.
This is a picture of me learning to swim for the first time. So much support and encouragement on the sidelines. Photos being taken to document the moment. This is what we need to give ourselves as we go about our creative endeavours. Love, encouragement, kindness, support, compassion (and a sense of humour for good measure... just look at my little face!).
